This activity aims to help influence community norms and values, strengthen public opinion to more forcefully reject VE, and motivate community members to take action to counter it in 2016. This activity will conduct 40 performances and screenings based on 5 films and 5 theatre performance scripts followed by open discussions on locally-relevant issues of conflict, violence, and extremism thereby using casual theatre as a relatively non-threatening, yet emotionally powerful medium to highlight and cause audience members to reflect upon the social issues in their neighborhoods.th to support this activity. This activity will be implemented in the four new neighborhoods of Karachi, mainly Nazimabad, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e- Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar. The grantee will leverage their past experience and their existing network to identify venues for performances to increase outreach to the audience. Prior to developing the play scripts and films, the grantee will engage community members in helping identify locally relevant VE and social issues through focus group discussions, and will subsequently involve local youth in organizing and supporting the performances. This activity seeks to provoke critical thinking on social issues by engaging youth and community members in discussions after the performances and screenings that reflect on VE and CVE efforts.
